Arming for Aftermath- Iyanden, Dadan-ean Sect

Awesome, ok. First log for the new army.

Bit of Background for your enjoyment/dismay/annoyance.

The Dadan-ean sect of the Iyanden Craftworld
"This sector of the Iyanden Craftworld were a very proud army before the great Tyranid attack, fielding many Dire Avengers and striking fear and death into the hearts of there enemy. The Dire Avengers fought valiantly against the onslaught, as a result of this however there are not many ‘living’ Dire Avengers left. Without a shred of regret or shame however, the proud leaders of this sect fit every last fallen Dire Avenger Soul stone into the shell of a Wraithguard. Even the Wraithlords, Hedyu, Opiusi and Guarod were Dire Avengers at one point, the most powerful and battle hardened of course."

This means that 1. This army will be Iyanden (Wraithguard and Wraithlord Heavy) and 2. Will contain a Troop few Troops of Dire Avengers.

Working out army lists at the moment, but with the new Codex to qualify for a 'Troop' of Wraithguard (As apposed to an Elite choice) you have to have 10 Wraithguard (350pts) accompanied by a Spiritseer. (A Warlock with Enchancements) the Troop I have worked out actually comes very close to 500 points on its own.

My First 'Modelleing and Painting' Project is going to be that very troop. I have named it 'Yurai’s Own'. Yurai being the Spiritseer leading them. They are as mentioned above all fallen DireAvengers, may possible think about converting the current Wraithguard models with Fluffy bits on there heads.

Next project will probally either be a Squad of Avengers or possibly a Wraithlord. Which would be fun.

First question for you guys, I'm trying to decide a color scheme, Ofcourse it will be Yellow and Blue to keep in theme with Iyanden. But here are the 2 I'm thinking of (Used the Games Workshop Eldar Color Scheme Creator. They're Guardians, even though I'll be painting Wraithguards, Sure I'll paint some Guardians at some point too)



I'm leaning more towards the Blue undersuit, as its a bit different. And the Dark blue is a running theme for Dire Avengers. Maybe White helmets?

Yurais a whole task on his own. I don't particularly like the Warlock model, any thoughts?

I like the idae of the blue undersuit, I guess it'll break up the solid yellow look of the army's wraith guard & lords.

Have you checked out the recent direct only bonesinger? Seems apt for Iyaden. Another favourie of mine, which I use in my Alaitoc, is the classic/collecters Farseer - the one with the 'bug eyes'.

You mean that one? No I hadn't seen it before. But it's a definate "Oh my God lemme get my hands on that for my Farseer leader." Think its a bit 'grand' for my Warlock to accompany Wraithguards. Thanks for the suggestion though, thats one nice model.

Would have to do some Conversion work because I like gear represented on the model, i.e. The Witchblade.

Nice to see an Order Arming thread, even if it is full of my mis-guided kin. (Although I can't say alot, since I've been away a couple of boxes of Rangers have appeared on my painting station.)

Colour scheme wise I'll really just echo the everybody else and say go for the more blue of the two. The more yellow is standard Iyanden if my memory is correct so is "more common" (if Iyanden can be considered common). The blue also, as you said, ties them to their past as Dire Avengers. In that vien I would say give it a go with the white helmets as well. And if your into banners then perhaps have them fly both the symbol of the Shrine of Asuryan and that of the Dire Avenger Temple. I really like the idea of an army of ex-Avengers, and so if you can tie that in visually as well as just in fluff I think it will really give the army that something extra.

As for models for Warlocks, if your not a fan of the Warlock models all I can really suggest is to look at the WHFB Elve ranges and see if there are any there which you feel could work.

Anyway, I look forward to watching the Dadan-ean grow.

Thanks for the feed back guys, especially confirming that my Fluff/Army idea is actually a nice one. I kept telling myself it was retarded and wouldn't fit. I like the idea about Banners, would have to work on those.. Possibly experiement with Paper's or Green stuff. Don't want them to look sloppy.

The classic Farseer (your second link) has actualy got a sheathed sword upon his back which you can't see from the photo.

I like the Eltharion model, the blinded/covered eyes are a nice visual link to the whole 'wraithsight' thing

Gunna set myself a Task! Duhn duhn duhn. Try Proposed Color Scheme on an individual Guardian/Maybe Avenger. Hopefully get this done with pics by the end of the weekend. Hopeing my paints still work *eyeshift* Haven't painted anything in a couple of years.
